Te Hononga O Tāmaki Me Hoturoa is a descendent of Tāmaki Healthcare and Te Kupenga o Hoturoa. The boards of those organisations identified a number of shared principles and values that they thought would guide the new organisation. Note that the Establishment Board has yet to finalise a vision and value set for Te Hononga O Tāmaki Me Hoturoa.
Guiding principles were that the new organisation is to be a kaupapa Māori Whānau Ora organisation that:
-
Is responsive to Māori and other high needs populations
-
Is responsive to its health and service providers
-
Provides evidence based clinically led health services focused on ensuring quality outcomes for its community
-
Is financially sustainable and not for profit.
Two fundamental elements of this strategy that define Te Hononga O Tāmaki Me Hoturoa and that underpin its skills, expertise and reputation are its responsiveness:
-
To the needs of its population
-
In its management of its network of providers.
Additional principles included:
-
Kaupapa Māori - Māori owned, Māori led, Māori governed
-
Stay focused on the people we serve – He aha te mea nui? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata (What is the greatest thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people)
-
Be innovative
-
Responsibilities as– Whānau Ora, Tangata Ora, Māori Ora
-
Be credible and reputable
-
Action-oriented – nimble and quick to deliver
-
Financially viable – profitable, able to build and invest for the future
-
Hauora Māori – Hauora Whānau – Hauora Tangata; Healthy Māori – Healthy Families – Healthy People.
